Vietnam's second AFF Cup after Duc's goal

AFF SUZUKI CUP FINAL

Vietnam 1 Malaysia 0 (Vietnam win 3-2 on aggregate)
HANOI • An early goal by Nguyen Anh Duc proved decisive as Vietnam beat Malaysia 1-0 at the My Dinh National Stadium yesterday to lift the AFF Suzuki Cup for the second time.
The Vietnamese had allowed a two-goal lead to slip to a 2-2 draw in the first leg in Kuala Lumpur last Tuesday.
But Vietnam were determined to press home their home advantage early on and Duc restored their advantage when he volleyed home from close range after only six minutes.
However, they had to survive several scares as goalkeeper Dang Van Lam made a series of fine saves to preserve Vietnam's lead, with Park Hang-seo's men winning 3-2 on aggregate to claim the Asean Football Federation title for the first time since 2008.
Vietnam had the benefit of two away goals from the first leg and they made an excellent start in Hanoi, taking the lead when Nguyen Quang Hai's chip from the left found Duc, whose volley was too powerful for goalkeeper Farizal Marlias to keep out of his net.
The hosts had to be indebted to a stellar display from Lam, who was called into action just before half-time to tip Syahmi Safari's first-time effort over his crossbar.
He showed fine reflexes again after the break to claw Mohamadou Sumareh's header away to safety, before making another fine save to keep out Safawi Rasid's free kick.
Ten players - six Vietnamese and four Malaysians - were booked in the scrappy encounter, which culminated in the dismissal of Shahrul Saad in added time when he received his second yellow card after committing a foul on the halfway line to snuff out a counter-attack.
Hai, who scored three goals and was an ever-present for Vietnam in the tournament, was named the Most Valuable Player as Malaysia's dream of their second title since 2010 ended.
Malaysia coach Tan Cheng Hoe admitted that Vietnam's early goal "destroyed" his plans for the game and "affected the players' confidence".
Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad said the Harimau Malaya should "look at this as an experience to improve themselves". "I am convinced that with a little more effort, we have the potential to win matches to come," he said.

Players nabbed in Spain fixing probe

MADRID • Spanish police yesterday arrested several footballers, former players and club executives as part of a match-fixing investigation.
Daily El Pais revealed former player Raul Bravo, who played for Real Madrid and was an ex-Spain international; Borja Fernandez, who retired earlier this month following the end of Valladolid's LaLiga season; and ex-Sevilla player Carlos Aranda were among those caught in the raid.
Others snared include Samuel Saiz, who had been on a season-long loan to Getafe from English Championship side Leeds, and Agustin Lasaosa, the president of recently relegated Huesca.
Juan Carlos Galindo Lanuza, the club's chief of medical staff, was also taken in, with police saying the arrested Huesca officials "are suspected of having taken part in match-fixing when they were in the second division".
According to a police source, the suspects are all accused of belonging to a criminal gang, corruption and money laundering.
Pedro Camarero, a lawyer acting for Huesca, told reporters various people at the club had been detained on a warrant.
He said: "We haven't been able to speak to the president yet. However, he will be able to give opportune explanations in due course.
"Internally within the club, we are not worried and are at the disposal of whatever the courts request of us. For now, we do not know how things will develop."
LaLiga president Javier Tebas, himself a former Huesca president, told daily Marca that the operation had originated from a complaint made by Spain's top flight and the investigation had been over a year in the making.
The Spaniard said: "It really hurts, because it affects a club I love, but the most important thing is to end corruption in football."
The Spanish league also issued a statement, saying: "We want to thank the National Police for the extraordinary work done to dismantle what appears to be an organised criminal group dedicated to obtaining economic benefits through the predetermination of matches."
Spanish media have reported LaLiga and LaLiga 2 matches in the recently-concluded season and previous one were allegedly fixed, and the probe had been triggered following Huesca's 1-0 loss to Nastic on May 27 last year, with "irregular betting patterns" over the half-time and full-time scores spotted.
The Daily Mail also reported an influx of bets coming from Ukraine and Asia had aroused suspicions in the match, with Huesca having sealed promotion to LaLiga, while Nastic were fighting to stay up.
Match-fixing has been a constant issue in Spanish football. In February last year, at least 24 people were arrested for allegedly rigging games in the lower leagues.

Football: Atletico edge five-goal thriller with Valencia to delay Barca celebrations

Football: Atletico edge five-goal thriller with Valencia to delay Barca celebrations

MADRID (AFP) - Atletico Madrid delayed Barcelona winning La Liga by a few days at least after Alvaro Morata and Antoine Griezmann each scored in a 3-2 victory over Valencia on Wednesday (April 24).
Defeat at the Wanda Metropolitano would have crowned Barca kings of Spain for a 26th time in their history, with the Catalans now set to celebrate at their own Camp Nou on Saturday instead.
A Barcelona win there over Levante will wrap up their fourth league triumph in five years and they could even be home and dry before kick-off, if Atletico fail to take a point at home to struggling Real Valladolid earlier in the day.
Regardless, success for Ernesto Valverde's side is surely now only a matter of timing given Atletico remain nine points behind the leaders with four games left to play. Real Madrid, who visit Getafe on Thursday, are 16 adrift.
If Getafe win, they will also move five points ahead of Valencia, whose chances of snatching fourth place and Champions League qualification would now appear remote.
But there will be some satisfaction at least for Atletico in making Barcelona win it on their own terms while also avoiding the embarrassment of conceding the title with a loss in front of their home fans.
Angel Correa's stunning strike in the 81st minute proved the winner after Valencia had fought back, Kevin Gameiro and a Dani Parejo penalty twice pulling them level after goals from Morata and Griezmann.
Morata's early strike continued his excellent form since his move to Atletico in January, his finish at the back post taking his tally to six goals in 13 games for the club.
Griezmann, meanwhile, back from suspension, now has 25 goals in all competitions this season, an impressive return, particularly in a side not renowned for its creativity.
Atletico were ahead inside 10 minutes as Juanfran's cross met the outstretched foot of Morata at the back post.
It was no less than they deserved for an aggressive opening but Valencia grew into the half and equalised shortly before half-time.
Francis Coquelin's crossfield pass picked out Carlos Soler, who cushioned inside to Santi Mina. Mina flicked the ball brilliantly between Diego Godin and Stefan Savic before squaring to Gameiro, who had time to pick his spot.
Atletico regrouped during the interval and were back in front four minutes after, Griezmann jumping ahead of Jose Gaya to nod in Thomas Lemar's cross.
But Valencia came again and a chaotic contest took another twist when Gameiro's shot was shown by VAR to have been blocked by the arm of Saul Niguez. Parejo powered into the corner.
The game was in the balance as Griezmann glanced a header wide before Correa, on as a substitute, provided the winning touch. Thomas Partey played into his feet but Correa did the rest, turning, twisting and then bending the ball inside Neto's left-hand post. Barca will have to wait.

Football: Arsenal to meet Napoli, Chelsea draw Slavia Prague in quarter-finals of Europa League

PARIS (AFP) - Arsenal will take on Napoli in the pick of the ties in the quarter-finals of this season's Europa League following Friday's (March 15) draw, as Chelsea were paired with outsiders Slavia Prague.
Unai Emery's team will host Napoli at the Emirates Stadium in the first leg on April 11, with the return in Italy a week later.
It is a tough draw for the Gunners, with Carlo Ancelotti's Napoli currently second in Serie A - they were eliminated from the Champions League in the group stage despite beating Liverpool at home and drawing twice with Paris Saint-Germain.
The winners of that tie will go on to a semi-final against the winners of an all-Spanish quarter-final between local rivals Valencia and Villarreal.
Both LaLiga sides defeated Russian opposition in the last 16, with Valencia edging out Krasnodar and Villarreal, who are struggling domestically, knocking out Zenit St Petersburg.
Before winning the Europa League three years running with Sevilla between 2014 and 2016, Emery really came to prominence during three years in charge of Valencia. He led them to three consecutive third-place finishes in La Liga between 2010 and 2012.
Emery and Ancelotti are both former Paris St Germain coaches, but the latter may have wished for a match-up with another of his old sides, Chelsea.
Instead, the west London club will face Slavia, heading to the capital of the Czech Republic for the first leg on April 11.
Chelsea, winners of the Europa League in 2013, will fancy their chances of advancing, although they would be wise to beware a Slavia side who are top of the Czech league and knocked out Sevilla in the last 16.
The winners of that tie will go through to a semi-final against either Benfica or dark horses Eintracht Frankfurt.
Benfica, who dropped out of this season's Champions League at the group stage, lost to Chelsea in the 2013 Europa League final and were then beaten by Sevilla on penalties in the final a year later.
Eintracht are a dangerous prospect, and the only German survivor in any European competition this season. The 1980 Uefa Cup winners, and runners-up in the European Cup in 1960, won the German Cup last season and are fresh from eliminating Inter Milan in the last 16.
This year's Europa League final will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, on May 29.
The winners will secure passage to next season's Champions League group stage.
Quarter-final draw
Arsenal v Napoli
Villarreal v Valencia
Benfica v Eintracht Frankfurt
Slavia Prague v Chelsea
The first legs will be played on April 11, and the return legs on April 18.

FC Barcelona were outplayed by Real Madrid for much of their Copa del Rey semifinal second leg, but the visitors did enough to prevail 3-0 on the night and 4-1 on aggregate and are headed to the final for the sixth consecutive year.

Football: Arsenal beat toothless Chelsea to blow Champions League chase open

LONDON (AFP) - Arsenal blew the race for a top-four Premier League finish wide open as first-half goals from Alexandre Lacazette and Laurent Koscielny saw the Gunners beat Chelsea 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday (Jan 19).
Chelsea remain in pole position for a return to Champions League football next season in fourth, but are now just three points ahead of Arsenal and a surging Manchester United, who beat Brighton earlier on Saturday to stretch caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's winning streak to seven games in all competitions.
Maurizio Sarri's men risk being caught after a fourth defeat in 11 league matches that underlined the need for a striker, as the club close in on signing Gonzalo Higuain on loan from Juventus.
Sarri again opted to start without a recognised centre-forward, with a largely anonymous Eden Hazard preferred in middle of a front three against an Arsenal defence that had kept just one Premier League clean sheet since September.
By contrast Arsenal boss Unai Emery's selection was vindicated, with Mesut Ozil on the bench for the whole match and a switch to a 4-4-2 that allowed Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to form a potent partnership up front.
Aubameyang should have opened the scoring after just five minutes when perfectly picked out by Lacazette's low cross, but he dragged his shot wide.
Kepa Arrizabalaga then produced a brilliant save to deny Koscielny from point-blank range, but it counted for little as from the resulting 14th-minute corner Arsenal took a deserved lead.

Lacazette did well to stay on his feet as he skipped past Marcos Alonso and Pedro Rodriguez before smashing the ball past Kepa at his near post.
Aubameyang should have doubled Arsenal's lead moments later but fired too close to Kepa when clean through.
Chelsea's start was horribly reminiscent of the 3-1 defeat at Tottenham in November that began their dip in form after a fine start to Sarri's reign at Stamford Bridge.
However, Arsenal's defence remained vulnerable when put under pressure and Pedro could have levelled when his lob over Bernd Leno shaved the outside of the post.
Aubameyang came close again, this time in spectacular fashion with an overhead kick that flew inches wide with Kepa beaten.
Chelsea were repeatedly caught out by Arsenal's well-worked set-pieces and paid for it again, albeit in fortunate fashion for the Gunners, six minutes before the break.
Sead Kolasinac headed down Lucas Torreira's free-kick into the path of Sokratis Papastathopoulos and his cross picked out the unmarked Koscielny.
The Arsenal captain mistimed his header, but the ball bounced in off his shoulder for his first goal since he ruptured his Achilles in April.
Chelsea could have got a foothold in the game before half-time as David Luiz's header came back off the post.
But in keeping with so many of their performances of late, Chelsea created little thereafter despite dominating possession.
Olivier Giroud was given a warm welcome back to the Emirates when he entered as a substitute, but even with the French international as a focal point, the visitors were toothless.
Sarri will hope Higuain, who scored 38 goals when the pair first worked together at Napoli in the 2015/16 season, is the answer.

LIVERPOOL, England (REUTERS) - Midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been included in Liverpool's squad for the knockout stages of the Champions League as he looks to make a comeback after being sidelined by a knee injury for over nine months.
The 25-year-old underwent surgery after he ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in the semi-final against AS Roma last season, and the England international missed the World Cup in Russia as a result.
Although there were fears that he would miss the entire 2018-19 campaign, Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp confirmed in December that he was ahead of schedule in his recovery and would play a role in the second half of the season.

Football: Brighton edge into FA Cup quarter-finals

LONDON (AFP) - Brighton moved into the FA Cup quarter-finals for the second successive season as goals from Anthony Knockaert and Jurgen Locadia clinched a 2-1 win over Derby on Saturday (Feb 16).
Chris Hughton's side have been sucked into relegation danger in the Premier League after six games without a win.
But the Seagulls made the most of a welcome break from the grind of the relegation battle as they saw off Frank Lampard's Championship side at the Amex Stadium.
Derby had claimed the scalps of Manchester United and Southampton in domestic cup competitions this season.
But the fifth round tie was tipped in Brighton's favour by a dominant first-half display.
Brighton opened the scoring after 33 minutes when Knockaert bent his first-time shot into the bottom corner of Kelle Roos' net after connecting with Yves Bissouma's cross.
Hughton's team doubled their advantage when Locadia fired home from close range in first-half stoppage time after Bissouma's effort hit the post.
Former Chelsea and Arsenal star Ashley Cole set up a tense finish when the Derby defender headed in after 81 minutes.
It was the 38-year-old's first goal in England since 2012 and his first ever in the FA Cup and the landmark strike came in his second game since joining Derby until the end of the season following his release by LA Galaxy.
But, despite Derby's barrage of pressure, Cole's goal wasn't enough to spark a late escape for the Rams.
Championship strugglers Millwall are also through to the quarter-finals after a 1-0 win at AFC Wimbledon.
AFC Wimbledon, currently bottom of League One, enjoyed a memorable win over West Ham in the fourth round.
But Neil Harris' side avoided becoming their latest upset victims as the Lions made it to the last eight for the second time in three years.
AFC Wimbledon's Joe Pigott hit the post from close range in the opening moments and Millwall made the most of that let-off to take the lead in the fifth minute.
Ryan Leonard made a barnstorming run down the right and whipped over a teasing cross that Scottish defender Murray Wallace converted with a powerful header at the far post.
Wallace also scored Millwall's last-gasp winner against Everton when the 2004 FA Cup finalists' came from behind for a shock fourth round victory.
Later on Saturday, Premier League leaders Manchester City travel to fourth tier minnows Newport County.

Keep foot on pedal, warns Solskjaer

LONDON • Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has warned his Manchester United players against complacency as they seek to extend their perfect record under him against Brighton in the Premier League today.
The Norwegian has won all six of his matches in charge - the best start of any United manager - since taking over on Dec 19 following the sacking of Jose Mourinho, and will look to keep up their hot streak at Old Trafford.
While the home team are on a high after beating Tottenham 1-0 away last weekend, Solskjaer wants his team to continue to play on the front foot and "not take their foot off the pedal".
He told reporters at his pre-match press conference: "You go into every single game as a United coach, player or manager thinking you'll win the next one, that's just the nature of this club.
"We've had six good games but the next one is the most important one. You cannot be too confident.
"I want them (the players) going into games full of confidence, taking people on, getting the crowd with them as that's what it's about."
Paul Pogba agreed with the interim boss about taking the game to the opposition, telling Sky Sports now that they "know where to attack and where to go", the club have rediscovered the attacking verve that was their hallmark under former manager Alex Ferguson.

The France midfielder, who has four league goals and four assists in his last five matches since being granted freedom on the pitch, added: "The way we are playing we have more possession of the ball.
"We have more of a pattern of play and more of a structure. That makes it easier for everyone."
However, not all have been beneficiaries of United's upturn in form. Both Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku are again expected to be named on the bench today.
Sanchez has made only one substitute appearance in the league while Marcus Rashford has supplanted Belgium striker Lukaku as the focal point of United's attack.
But Solskjaer feels Chilean forward Sanchez still has an important role to play in the second half of the season.
He said: "His attitude has been fantastic in training and I'm looking forward to seeing him."
Marouane Fellaini, another Mourinho favourite, has also been on the fringes, making just two substitute appearances for United during their impressive run of form.
Although he has been ruled out for up to four weeks with a calf injury, Solskjaer insisted the Belgium midfielder, who has been the subject of exit rumours in the transfer window, remains part of his immediate plans.
He said: "We all know Felli's X-factor. He'll be working hard to get back in when all the big games are coming as well."
The timing of his injury also meant Scotland midfielder Scott McTominay will unlikely be allowed to leave on loan to Celtic.

The boys gave their all: Fandi Ahmad

The Singapore national Under-22 team ended their Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Under-23 Championship qualification campaign unbeaten after defeating Mongolia 3-1 yesterday, but their joy was dampened by elimination after an insufficient points tally.
Fandi Ahmad's boys finished second in Group G with five points from three games, which included 1-1 draws against Hong Kong and group winners North Korea.
The 11 group winners and four best runners-up will join host Thailand in January's finals.
Even before the last round of fixtures was played yesterday, Oman, Bahrain, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Australia, Myanmar, Malaysia and Vietnam occupied second place in their respective groups with six points.
Despite bowing out, Fandi was happy with how his charges fared, saying: "It all went very well even though we have difficulties. The teamwork is there, the coaching staff are very together, the camaraderie is very good.
"We didn't qualify, but we gave our all. The boys sacrificed a lot and to finish second in the group, without a defeat, is something that has never happened in this age group."
In three previous editions of the AFC U-23 Championship in 2013, 2016 and 2018, Singapore suffered at least a defeat in each qualifying campaign and never finished higher than third in their group.

THEY HAVE POTENTIAL
We're just happy that the boys came back with good fighting spirit... This is a good team that we have to keep together. The coaching staff are very satisfied with the performance of the players.
FANDI AHMAD, national Under-22 coach, on his team's display.

The Young Lions were stunned after just three minutes at the MFF Football Centre in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia yesterday when Mongolia's Batbayar Khash-Erdene steered a looping header past goalkeeper Zharfan Rohaizad.
Singapore equalised in the 33rd minute through forward Amiruldin Asraf's header from a Hami Syahin cross from the left.
Two minutes before half-time, centre-back Irfan Fandi arrived at the far post to meet left-back Syahrul Sazali's free kick and power his header emphatically past goalkeeper Sanchir Anand.
And, in the 71st minute, forward Ikhsan Fandi flicked the ball on for Hami to sprint clear and score the third goal.
Fandi, 56, said: "We're just happy that the boys came back with good fighting spirit and good discipline.
"I know these Mongolian players are fighters. They fought very hard and they are good players and a hard-working team."
The Under-22s have another major assignment this year in November's SEA Games and Fandi hopes that he can mould them into a unit that can deliver a historic gold medal.
He said: "This is a good team that we have to keep together. The coaching staff are very satisfied with the performance of the players."

Football: England must learn from painful loss to Dutch in Nations League semis, says Southgate

GUIMARAES, Portugal (AFP) - England manager Gareth Southgate promised his side would learn from an error-strewn performance as the Netherlands progressed to the final of the Nations League by coming from behind to beat the Three Lions 3-1 on Thursday (June 6).
Defeat means England's long wait for a trophy since 1966 goes on and the Dutch thoroughly deserved their place in Sunday's final against Portugal.
Marcus Rashford's penalty gave England a first-half lead against the run of play, but Matthijs de Ligt made amends for his error in leading to the spot-kick to level 17 minutes from time.
England contributed to their own downfall in extra time with a comedy of errors for both goals. John Stones and Ross Barkley were at fault as Kyle Walker's own goal and Quincy Promes' simple finish sent Holland into the final.
Southgate's men were attempting to build on the success of reaching a first World Cup semi-final for 28 years, but their display showed much work is still to be done if they are to end their trophy drought on next summer at Euro 2020 with the semi-finals and final to be played on home soil at Wembley.
"I think it's a really important game for us to reflect on," said Southgate. "The next few days will be painful, having got to this stage, but we will be stronger for the experience."
He defended his decision to leave out all seven of the Champions League finalists in his squad from Tottenham and Liverpool as captain Harry Kane and Jordan Henderson were left on the bench.
And the England boss also insisted his side must persist with passing the ball out from the back despite the criticism that is bound to come Stones and Barkley's way.
"If we didn't play that way, we would never progress to be a top team," said Southgate.
"That's the way I believe they can play and should play.
"The errors were uncharacteristic, it was just poor execution and fatigue. I've got to not over-react to those things and support them in a difficult moment for everybody."
The Netherlands failed to even qualify for the last two major tournaments. However, the young talent that has seen a dramatic turnaround in their fortunes was in evidence with Barcelona-bound Frenkie de Jong outstanding in midfield.
"I heard he was player of the match tonight, well deserved," said Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman. "Most of the people are always looking what he is doing with the ball, how calm he is, but if you see defensive wise how many balls he is winning in midfield. It looks so easy, but it isn't."
De Ligt looks set to leave Ajax with a host of top European clubs after his signature, but he had a moment to forget just after the half-hour mark. The 19-year-old failed to control a simple pass and then chopped down Rashford, who picked himself up to slot home the resulting penalty.
However, De Ligt showed great character to make amends by powering home a header from a corner as the Netherlands' pressure finally told.
"We dropped too deep and it took them to equalise for us to step it up again," lamented Kane.
Just when there seemed only one winner, England produced their best move of the game as Stones, Ben Chilwell, Barkley and Raheem Sterling moved the ball from one end to the other before Jesse Lingard slotted home.
The celebrations were cut short, though, when the Manchester United midfielder was ruled offside by the finest of margins after a VAR review.
Memphis Depay and Donny van de Beek blazed over fine Dutch chances to win the game before extra time, but the Netherlands finally took complete control in the extra 30 minutes.
England inflicted much of the damage themselves as Stones dallied on the ball and after Jordan Pickford made a great save to deny Depay, Promes' follow-up deflected in off Walker.
Barkley's underhit backpass then teed up a third for the Dutch as Depay squared for Promes to slot into an empty net.

Chelsea have been handed a huge incentive to claim a top three finish in the Premier League. With Tottenham Hotspur failing to beat Bournemouth yesterday afternoon, the Blues can climb above their London rivals today and stay there with a win on the final day of the season next weekend.

Football: Australian players' union demands World Cup prize-money parity

MELBOURNE (REUTERS) - Australia's soccer players' union has launched a campaign calling for prize-money parity at the women's and men's World Cups, and offered support for the country's footballers to take legal action against global governing body Fifa.
The winning team at the women's World Cup in France, which starts on Friday, will receive US$4 million (S$5.47 million) in prize money from the tournament's total pool of US$30 million. In contrast, France banked US$38 million for winning the men's tournament in Russia last year.
Professional Footballers Australia Chief Executive John Didulica and other PFA executives wrote to Fifa last week demanding an immediate doubling in prize money for the women's tournament, saying the players were "victims of discrimination".
"The PFA expressly reserves the rights of the players to have this matter resolved through appropriate means including mediation and arbitration," the letter, addressed to Fifa's Chief Officer for Women's Football Sarai Bareman, said.
The PFA has launched a website (www.ourgoalisnow.com) outlining the campaign's aims and instructing women's players how to participate.
Australia's Matildas, quarter-finalists at the last women's World Cup in Canada, have thrown their weight behind the campaign, with players posting its logo and video on their social media accounts.
Gender pay disparity in football was put in the spotlight in March when the US women's team sued the US federation, alleging gender discrimination three months before their World Cup title defence.
Although prize money at the women's World Cup in France is double the amount from Canada, the pay gap with the men's tournament actually increased to US$370 million from US$343 million. The men's prize money grew from US$358 million at the 2014 Brazil World Cup to US$400 million in Russia.
Fifa is hosting its first "Women's Football Convention" in Paris on June 6-7 where it said leaders from the world of sports and politics would discuss the development and empowerment of women in soccer.

Football: PSG coach Thomas Tuchel hits out at Neymar after fan attack at French Cup final

FRANCE (AFP) - Thomas Tuchel on Monday (April 29) blasted Neymar for hitting a fan who insulted Paris Saint-Germain players as they filed up to collect their French Cup losers' medals.
A 28-year-old delivery driver from Nantes had been filming the PSG players and making less than flattering comments about them when a simmering Neymar grabbed the hand that held the mobile phone and shoved it towards the fan's face.
"I don't like it. You can't do that, you just can't do that," Tuchel said of the incident, which was caught on video by fans at the Stade de France.
Neymar lashed out on Saturday after his side threw away a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Rennes before losing the penalty shootout 6-5 after extra time.
"It's not easy to go up the steps after a defeat. It's very difficult for me, for everybody, but we have to accept it," Tuchel added.
"If we lose, we have to show respect. You can't get into a fight with a spectator."
The blow continued a bad-tempered end to the evening for PSG. Neymar's strike partner Kylian Mbappe was sent off for a dreadful tackle with two minutes left in extra time.
The defeat ended PSG's four-year reign in the French Cup and means that, while they have retained the French league title, they have won none of the cups they entered this season, with the most painful their exit at the last-16 stage of the Champions League to Manchester United.
"Did I act badly?" Neymar asked in an Instagram comment. "Yes. But no one can stay indifferent."
Neymar is now awaiting punishment from France's football authorities to go along with the three-match ban Uefa slapped him with on Friday for his foul-mouthed tirade following PSG's defeat to United.
European football's governing body sanctioned the 27-year-old after he told match officials "to go f*** yourselves" following United's 3-1 second-leg win at the Parc des Princes, won by the Premier League side thanks to a controversial penalty awarded via the video assistant referee system.

Football: Gonzalo Higuain must earn permanent Chelsea deal: Maurizio Sarri

LONDON (AFP) - Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri is confident Gonzalo Higuain can be the short-term solution to his side's need for goals and urged the Argentinian to earn a permanent move to the Premier League.
Higuain sealed a loan move until the end of the season on Wednesday (Jan 23) from parent club Juventus having spent a troubled first half of the campaign on loan at AC Milan.
Sarri has fond memories of his one previous season together with Higuain when the striker scored a record 36 Serie A goals in a single campaign.
Now he hopes Higuain can reignite Chelsea's spluttering attack and earn a long-term switch to Stamford Bridge in the process.
"For sure, he is one of the best strikers in my career," said Sarri, who will have to cope without Higuain for Thursday's League Cup semi-final, second leg against Tottenham.
"It's up to him, I think. He has to score, first of all. I think that for a long-term contract, he has to do very well.
"He has to play. He has to score. He has to be useful for the team."
After an excellent start to Sarri's reign in charge, Chelsea have stumbled since losing for the first time under the Italian against Spurs at the end of November.
A run of four defeats in 11 Premier League games has coincided with Sarri's decision to move Eden Hazard into the middle of his front three with the Belgian's impact limited.
Higuain has struggled since being forced out of Juventus in the summer by the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo, scoring just eight times in 22 appearances for Milan.
Sarri, though, believes he is the best proven goalscorer Chelsea could have added this month.
"Higuain usually is able to score 25 or 30 goals every season," he added.
"As I told you before, in the market in January it's very difficult to secure a very important striker.
"Gonzalo was in a situation that we could try to buy him, and so we decided to try for Higuain."
However, Sarri explained that decision was in part forced by Alvaro Morata's desire to leave Chelsea.
The Spaniard cost a then club record £60 million (S$106.6 million) when he signed from Real Madrid in July 2017, but now seems set for a loan move to Atletico Madrid to make way for Higuain.
"I think that Morata is a very good player. I think that Morata has the characteristics for playing in my team," added Sarri.
"But Morata, one month ago, said he wanted to play in another team. So it was really very difficult for him to give us the 100 per cent for his mental situation, I think.
"From the physical and technical point of view, he is a very good player and suitable for my football. But the situation changed in the last month. So we needed to change."

Maurizio Sarri has challenged Gonzalo Higuain to hit the ground running if he wants to earn a permanent contract at Stamford Bridge. Higuain joined the Blues on Thursday night, completing a loan move until the end of the season. As part of the agreement with Juventus, Chelsea have the option to extend that loan deal by a further 12 months.

Short and sweet as Long records fastest goal in Premier League

Short and sweet as Long records fastest goal in Premier League

LONDON • Southampton striker Shane Long scored the fastest goal in Premier League history, netting after just 7.69 seconds of his side's 1-1 Premier League draw at Watford on Tuesday.
The Ireland international's opener came immediately after the kick-off when he blocked a clearance from Watford defender Craig Cathcart before dinking a cool finish over goalkeeper Ben Foster.
The 32-year-old's effort at Vicarage Road surpassed the previous fastest league goal, scored in 9.82 seconds by then Tottenham defender Ledley King against Bradford in December 2000.
While it was only Long's fourth strike of the season, three of those have come in his last four appearances and his hot form has been a fillip for Ralph Hasenhuttl's team.
The Saints are now six points clear of 18th-placed Cardiff with just three league games remaining.
However, they were left to rue their missed opportunities to all but mathematically seal safety after twice striking the woodwork through Nathan Redmond and Ryan Bertrand.
Expressing his surprise at his feat, Long told Sky Sports: "It's a record, is it?
"Straight from the kick-off, we wanted to put them under pressure, 99 times out of a hundred, you block it and it doesn't work, but this time, it did."

  • 7.69sec

His joy was tempered by Andre Gray's added-time equaliser, which saw his teammates fall to the pitch in despair. He added: "It's nice to have a record like that, but it would have been nicer if it was the winning goal."
King was in the stands at Spurs' 1-0 home win over Brighton the same night and he later acknowledged the achievement, tweeting: "Just wanted to congratulate Shane Long on breaking the fastest goal in Premier League history record after 19 years.
"That's gonna take some beating, well done."

Contract issue may cost Sala's family $1m in compensation
LONDON • The family of Emiliano Sala are in danger of missing out on up to £600,000 (S$1 million) in compensation for his death because Cardiff made an error in registering his contract with the English Premier League.
The league returned the paperwork to the club asking for corrections, and for the Argentinian striker to sign the forms again.
But, before he was able to do so, the 28-year-old died when the light aircraft carrying him from France crashed into the English Channel on Jan 21, three days after he had become their club-record £15 million signing from Nantes.
The error could be significant because players automatically become part of the Professional Footballers' Association's (PFA) pension scheme as soon as they are registered with the league, and that provides a £600,000 death-in-service payment to their families.
But the PFA is expected to press for the pension fund to honour the payment as Sala had signed a contract with Cardiff on Jan 18. Union officials hope that will be enough to secure a payment to his family.
PFA deputy chief executive John Bramhall said: "It will be for the trustees to see whether they are able to make the payment from there. Normally, it would be a simple process, but we will be speaking with them on this. Usually, as soon as a contract is registered with the Premier League, the player is enrolled on the pension scheme."
The PFA had been unaware of any issues over the paperwork, but it is understood that the registration documents were returned to Cardiff by the league asking for corrections to be made.
The league registration is separate to the International Transfer Certificate, which was completed after Sala's move. That was registered with the Football Association of Wales and confirmed him as a Cardiff player, leaving the club liable to pay Nantes the transfer fee.

CONTRACT COMPLICATIONS
Usually, as soon as a contract is registered with the Premier League, the player is enrolled on the pension scheme.
JOHN BRAMHALL, Professional Footballers' Association deputy chief executive, on the contract Emiliano Sala signed with Cardiff.

There is hope that Sala's family will receive the £600,000 as the league's rules state that "immediately on signing this contract, the player shall be enrolled as... a member of the 2011 Section of the Professional Footballers' Pension Scheme and shall remain so during his employment".
This suggests that as Sala had signed his contract with Cardiff, his membership could be said to have started then rather than at the point the contract would have been registered with the league.
Cardiff did not respond when asked to comment, but they have frozen any payments to Nantes on the grounds that they want the outcome of the investigation into the crash to be completed first.

LONDON • It was difficult to ignore the return of Mesut Ozil.
Arsenal's supposed marquee player was back, given his first start since Nov 11 after a back problem and a high-profile omission for "tactical reasons" against Tottenham in the League Cup on Wednesday.
The forward responded in style when he set up two goals in the 3-1 Premier League home win over Burnley yesterday, even if he was peripheral for long spells.
"Very good response. He played like we needed today," Gunners manager Unai Emery said at his post-match conference.

Premier League games it took Arsenal to go into half-time with the lead. They last did so against Huddersfield on the final day of last season.

"His skills, his commitment was very good. He helped us. I said we needed Mesut Ozil."
Given the captain's armband by Emery, Ozil was frequently buffeted by a strong and physical Burnley team and largely unable to impose his passing rhythms.
But he popped up early with a glorious pass that set up the first of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's two goals and late on with an assist for Alex Iwobi.
It was a strangely disjointed game, even after Aubameyang put Arsenal in charge with his second at the beginning of the second half. The Gabon striker now has 12 goals in the Premier League and 14 in all competitions this season.
Despite trailing by two goals, Burnley, without an away win since September, made life difficult for Arsenal.
The game was niggly, with the always angry Ashley Barnes, who scored the away side's goal, central to much of it.
He had a tussle with Arsenal defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos, the pair tussling on the ground in the first half after they chased a loose ball into touch; Barnes was rather harshly booked.

But the Burnley striker gets his edge from playing on the edge while his team's physicality, in general, was a problem for their hosts.
"They are an aggressive team, that is clear in their game plan," Emery added.
"They are more physical than us, that is normal. But we need to adapt... We won today not because we played well but because every player had a very big commitment.
"We knew Burnley are an organised team and were going to push us... I think we controlled the match like we wanted."
The game was tense at 2-1 when the board went up to show five minutes of stoppage time.
Enter Ozil. He drove into the area and caught a break when his pass was deflected into the path of Iwobi, who made no mistake.
Henry Winter, The Times of London's chief football writer, tweeted in praise: "That's what Mesut Ozil can do, tease a ball through tight spaces. Such a gifted footballer with vision and technique... the talent is undeniable."
Following a 22-match unbeaten run, Arsenal had lost last Sunday at Southampton and again to Spurs in midweek. From their perspective, this was more like it.
For Burnley manager Sean Dyche, whose team are struggling in the relegation zone, it was just a bad day at the office.
"It wasn't a 3-1 game, I think all would agree with that. We conceded soft goals," he said on the BBC's Match of the Day.
"When you come here, you do need decisions and so many went against us. We've got to turn good performances into good results."
